The Best Way To Organise Your Bedroom

Sinking into a lovely freshly laundered bed at the end of a long day is the stuff of dreams. And while it’s not always possible to have fresh bed linen every day, having a calm and relaxing bedroom to sleep in at night should be part of our bedtime routine.

We’re all guilty of having stuff piled high on our bedside cabinets, not to mention the dreaded chair with half the contents of the wardrobe piled on top! Organising our bedrooms to be a clutter-free zone should be on all our lists of things to do

Decluttering Messy bedrooms

No matter what size the bedroom is, tidying away laundry and junk that has piled up brings a sense of calm and order back into our lives. A study by New York’s St. Lawrence University, revealed that a messy bedroom could lead to a poor night’s sleep and increased anxiety.

For added peace of mind, we have compiled our top tips on how to declutter our bedrooms and restore serenity once more into our lives.

How To Declutter A Messy Bedroom

It’s fairly obvious, but the first step to clearing a messy room is to stop using it as a dumping ground. If you keep setting all those lovely freshly laundered clothes on top of the bed or chest of drawers, it’s going to keep growing!

Set aside some time to tidy away laundry and other junk that has found its way up to the room. Our bedrooms are a place to rest and relax and definitely should not be an extension of the office.

With more people working from home, the office has extended into our bedrooms. Before you go to bed, remove work-related items, such as computers, paperwork or work phones.

How To Organise Your Bedroom in Seven Easy Steps

  1. Underbed storage is a great way to maximise space in your bedroom. Ottoman beds, bed frames and divans with drawer storage are ideal for storing away seasonal clothes, shoes and bed linen.
  2. Aim to keep your bedside cabinet clutter-free. Bedside tables with drawers are super handy for storing away books, phones, and other knick knacks.
  3. Free the chair! Tidy away all clothes draped over the gym equipment or bedroom furniture. Mrs Hinch and Marie Kondo have lots of top tips on how to declutter your clothes. They might even find their way back to the wardrobe.
  4. Add some extra shelving to the walls so that ornaments and books are off the floor and stored safely.
  5. The laundry basket is not a basketball hoop! Make sure the laundry makes it into the basket and not on the floor!
  6. Aim to make your bed every day. Not only does it make the space look tidy, but it’s lovely to come home to a made bed.
  7. Don’t forget to vacuum under the bed. If the bed has drawers, empty the contents and clean by simply vacuuming and wiping over.
