Ottoman beds are a functional piece of bedroom furniture that opens to reveal a generous storage space. Designed with the appearance of a traditional bed, ottomans are an ideal solution when bedroom space is an issue and you require extra storage capacity.
Ottoman style divans have a shallow platform top which is hinged to the base. Access to the storage area is done so via a lifting platform which is connected to either the side or head end of the base via a hinged system. When lifted, this gives access to almost all the underbed area. Hydraulic or tension springs are incorporated into the design of the bed to make lifting and replacing safe and easy, even with a heavy mattress on top.
Some of the leading bed manufacturers, the Dorlux, Natural Sleep Company, Slumber Night, Sweet Dreams and Staples produce a range of different ottoman bed options.
The Slumber Night Sovereign and the Slumber Night Excelsior both come with an ottoman storage option. Whereas Sweet Dreams have an extensive collection of divan beds and bed frames with optional ottoamn storage.
Unlike traditional beds with underbed storage, ottomans are designed to provide the entire under the mattress area as a form of storage. Unlike other types of divans, where the drawers will take up valuable storage space, ottomans allow you to store bulky things, which would otherwise clutter up your bedroom.
Ottoman beds come in two different styles: ottoman divans and ottoman bed frames. The raising platform in these models differ greatly with ottoman-style divans having a narrow section constructed in a similar way to the rest of the divan base; whereas bed frames are designed with a metal frame section with sprung slats.
