Preparing For Visitors This Festive Season

Guest Bed Solutions

It’s that time of year when we are all refreshing our decor so our homes are looking at their best – from the annual winter clean, to a quick retouch of the paintwork, we’re also busying ourselves with putting the finishing touches to the festive decorations.

Many of us will have family and friends coming to stay so it’s only natural we want our homes looking good. Of course guests coming to stay also means we will be sprucing up the spare room or making space in existing bedrooms to accommodate them.

It can be a stressful time if we’re worrying about where everyone is going to sleep never mind freshening up the bedrooms and bedding in preparation for their stay. To help you with this task we’ve put together our top tips on getting the festive season off to a great start with our essential guide to preparing for festive visitors.

Essential Guide to Preparing for Festive Visitors

Try and plan ahead by working out where your guests are going to sleep. If you have a spare room this is ideal, but if space is tight at home why not consider a guest bed solution that can work for the whole family all year round?  A Trundle Bed or Guest Bed will make the best use of small spaces, and with many offering extra storage, they are an ideal choice for children all year round.

If the bed in the spare room has seen better days – take the Bed M.O.T. to see how it stands up – maybe it’s time to invest in a new one! If you’re not sure what model is best for your needs check out our handy guide on what to look for when buying a new bed

If the bed base is fine and it’s simply your mattress that has seen better days maybe it’s time to invest in a new one. From great budget buys to the luxury models there’s a mattress to suit all pockets and preferences. Remember though, a bed is a mattress and base together and buying them in isolation can be a false economy.

If money is tight, consider investing in some good quality mattress and pillow protectors. Not only will they freshen up existing bedding, but they will also protect your mattress and pillows from general wear and tear.

Check with your guests if anyone suffers from allergies. If you have duck or goose feather duvets and pillows these are likely to irritate them. There are lots of anti-allergy duvets and pillows now available, so you could pack away the feathers over the festive season and invest in some good quality man-made fibre bedding instead.

If your pillows have become discoloured or lumpy maybe it’s time to ditch them for some fresh new models. If this isn’t feasible for your budget right now, a quick wash & tumble dry should bring them back to life. Although many pillows are fully washable, it is advisable to check the laundry care labels beforehand. Do think about replacing your pillows every two years though as they can contain some nasty stuff if they’re too old!

Putting up guests can be a costly business, never mind the expense of heating our homes over the festive season. With most families off work and school at this time of the year the central heating can be a bit expensive. If you’re concerned that your guests may feel the cold at night maybe investing in an electric blanket could be the answer. Costing as little as 2 pence per night to run they are a more affordable solution to keeping the central heating blasting all night!

Finally, relax! It’s Christmas!
