Company History

Dalzell's of Markethill was established in 1956, at what is known locally as The Square in the market town of Markethill in Co. Armagh, by the legendary Noel Dalzell and his quick witted wife, Evelyn, as a household furnisher (including beds!). Business wasn't easy at first and in the opening week Noel had barely sold a stick of furniture and had taken the sum of 15'6, the equivalent of 80p in today's money and it seemed likely that the venture would meet an early end. Saturday came and late that afternoon a newly married Mr & Mrs McRoberts arrived at the store and purchased furniture and homewares to meet all the needs of their new home in just a few hours. And so the story continued to where we are today.

From these humble beginnings and through ample hard work, keen minds and an innate ability to communicate with customers, they laid the foundations for a rapid expansion and they were soon purchasing extensive new premises on Main Street which is still our location today. There they extended their business to agricultural supplies and the growing market for electrical appliances. Indeed, such was the growth of home appliances that Dalzell's were soon the official wholesalers for leading brands like Electrolux and Servis. They even began importing premium appliance brands such as Smeg directly from Italy to Ireland for the first time as the sole distributor.

The generations in the business have changed today with Trevor and Sharon, Noel and Evelyn's son and daughter in law, at the helm but the solid traditions of good retail practices that has helped build the business and which were also part of its original logo are as strong now as they were then - Quality | Value | Service

What We Won't Do!

We won't criticise a brand or product simply because we don't stock it.

We won't turn our back on you the moment we have completed delivery of your bed or mattress. This means that if you have a problem with your purchase we will speak to the manufacturer directly on your behalf to take things forward for you. What's more, we can even re-issue you a receipt from our records should you require it for your guarantee.
