Our History of Delivering A Great Night’s Sleep
First and foremost we’re a local family business with a set of business values you’d like to expect but don’t always get nowadays.
So, before you place your order with us, let us get introduced – with nigh on 70 years of expertise bedding you can count on Dalzells to deliver!
Company History
Dalzells of Markethll was established as Noel’s way back in 1956, at The Square in the Co. Armagh market town of Markethill by the legendary Noel Dalzell and his quick witted wife, Evelyn, as a household furnisher (including beds!). Business wasn’t easy at first and in the opening week Noel had barely sold a stick of furniture and had taken the sum of 15’6, the equivalent of 80p in today’s money and it seemed likely that the venture would meet an early end. Saturday came and late that afternoon a newly married Mr & Mrs McRoberts arrived at the store and purchased furniture and homewares to meet all the needs of their new home.
From humble beginnings, hard work, a little luck and an innate ability to communicate with customers, they laid the foundations for rapid expansion and they soon purchased extensive new premises on Main Street which has remained our home to this day. There they extended their business to agricultural supplies and the growing market for home appliances. Indeed, such was the growth of home appliances that Dalzells were soon the official wholesalers for leading brands like Electrolux and Servis. They even began importing premium appliance brands such as Smeg directly from Italy to Ireland for the first time as the sole distributor – Home Appliances continues to be a huge part of our business to this day.
Third Generation Family Business
Now a third-generation family business led by Trevor and Sharon, Dalzells has 70 years of experience and is a trusted name in the bedding industry. Our passion for quality and comfort has never wavered, and today Armagh Beds specialises in helping customers choose the right beds and mattresses to support better sleep and long-term wellbeing.
As an independent retailer of some of the biggest brands, including Relyon, Kaymed, King Koil, Respa, and MiBed, among others. This allows us to offer a wide choice across key product types such as Mattresses, Divan Beds, Adjustable Beds and Orthopaedic Mattresses, with options to suit different comfort needs, lifestyles and budgets.
We take great pride that many of these brands are manufactured on the island of Ireland supporting local jobs, know how and manufacturing. Through the years we’ve become something of a specialist in Adjustable Beds and Riser Recliner Chairs, crucially displaying a large range with stock on-hand for immediate delivery for those in need.
Our staff are enthusiastic about the importance of a regular and consistent sleeping pattern and how this can affect quality of life – a good night’s sleep begins with a great bed. As such our sales team have all graduated from the National Bed Federation’s Training Programme, to understand customers’ individual sleep needs and requirements, to help select the bed most suited to their needs.
Dalzells Beds – NBF Premier Retail Champion
We are proud to be accredited as an NBF (National Bed Federation) Premier Retail Champion, giving our customers added confidence that they are buying high-quality beds and mattresses, manufactured here in the UK and Ireland, from a retailer committed to best practice, transparency and customer care.
