Signs That You Need a New Bed

Sleep Tips

When you’re waking up with aches and pains and your bed has become worn and lumpy, it’s usually a sign that it’s past its best and it’s time for a new one.

Buying a new bed is a long term investment. Considering the average lifespan of a mattress is around seven years, it’s worth spending as much as you can afford to get a good quality, comfortable bed.

Before you do, though, arm yourself with all the necessary information to make the right choice.

We’ve put together this handy guide on what to look for when buying a new bed.

What to Look For When Buying a New Bed

When thinking about buying a new bed, think about the type of base, style of bed, mattress comfort, size, budget and, of course, quality.

  1. What do you like or dislike about your current bed?
  2. What style of bed would you like – divan, bed frame or hybrid bed?
  3. Would you prefer a softer or firmer tension mattress?
  4. Would a bigger bed fit in the space you have?
  5. How much can you afford to spend?
  6. Does it carry an accredited logo or manufacturers’ warranty?

Choosing The Right Bed

Ideally, your mattress should mould to your body; too soft and your body will slouch, which could result in back pain; too firm and your hips and shoulders pressure points could feel discomfort.

It’s important too to try a selection of beds for comparison. Wear comfortable clothing and lie on each bed for at least 5 to 10 minutes.

Lie in your normal sleep position and try the bed together if the bed’s for two.

Buy your bed and mattress together as a bed is a mattress and a base; don’t consider them in isolation.7 Tips for Buying a New Bed

Larger beds are more comfortable because, with a larger bed, you are less likely to disturb one another.

Like everything in life, you get what you pay for in regards to both product and service so spend as much as you can afford.
