Bedroom Spring Cleaning Hacks

Cleaning-Hacks-for-the-Bedroom

Whether you’re a die-hard Marie Kondo fan or a fully-fledged member of the ‘Hinch Army’, there’s definitely something about the clocks going forward that gives us the spring cleaning bug.

And where better to start your cleaning routine than the bedroom.

From freshening up the bedlinen to vacuuming the floor and airing the mattress, there are lots of ways to breathe new life into your room.

Cleaning Hacks for the Bedroom

Nothing says Spring than lovely fresh air filtering into your home.  And of course, a quick and simple way to get your bedroom smelling fresher is to open the windows and let the air circulate.

Not only will you banish any lingering odours from overnight sleepers but it’s great for airing your bed and mattress too.

With the windows still open turn back the bed clothes, or pop them in the wash, and leave the mattress to air for 20 minutes or so.

Mattress-Cleaning

When laundering your bed linen, it’s recommended that duvets are professionally cleaned. But if you want to launder them yourself, always read and follow the specific care instructions on the product label.

After a quick wash, pop the duvets and pillows in the tumble dryer to fluff them up and even out the fillings.

If you’ve time, a quick vacuum on and around the mattress area will remove any dust or debris that has gathered during the winter months.

Bed and Mattress Care

With the bed stripped back, use this time to check for any general wear and tear, discolouration, lumps or protruding springs from the mattress. A bed that’s seven years or older may not give you the correct comfort and support you need.

Not sure if your bed is up to scratch? Take the Bed MOT and check for yourself.

If the mattress is non-turn rotate it from top to bottom that way the fillings will be able to settle back into their natural position.

For a turnable mattress, it’s best to regularly rotate as this will promote even wear and prolong its life.

Weather permitting, you could even sponge down the mattress surface with a light soapy water, making sure you don’t soak through, and leave out to dry in the sun – if there is any, that is!

Cleaning-Mattress

A quick vacuum under the bed is great for picking up dust particles and any scattered pieces of rubbish that have fallen between the mattress and bed.

If the bed has drawers, use the time to empty the contents and give the storage compartments a good clean out by simply vacuuming and wiping over.

The divan base or bed frame could also be sponged or wiped down with a damp cloth or sponge, but make sure and check the manufacturer’s care instructions as some detergents may be too strong and could damage the upholstery.

Mattress Protection

With the bed and mattress all fresh and clean it’s time to remake the bed. It’s worth thinking about investing in good quality mattress and pillow protectors as they will keep your mattress and pillows fresher and cleaner for longer and extend their lifespan.

With the bed remade, a quick vacuum and dusting round the room will leave your bedroom feeling so much fresher and inviting for a great night’s sleep ahead.
